Drawing on the Right

Katrina Sheena Smyth

Ends 06 February 2010

This is the last in a series of three consecutive projects, where artist use the walls of PSĀ² as a surface for their drawings. The series started with '20 eyes' by Miguel Martin, followed by Beverley Cleland 'The Drawing Room'.
All approaches are different, not only in their outcome, but also in their intention towards drawing as a medium. For Katrina Sheena Smyth, 'Drawing on the Right' is a durational project based on an impulsive and spontaneous way of drawing . For her, the act of drawing is similar to thought processes that occur during meditation activities that requires a state of sub- consciousness. The lines emerge as dense patterns or rhythms like seismographic notations.

About the project

'Drawing on the Right' is a durational project that is based on a manifestation of impulsive drawings within the project
space. The process that is used when creating
the drawings is similar to the thought process that occurs during various meditation activities that requires the mind to disassociate from its normal conscious state.
The drawings emerge as patterns or rhythms.
Patterns or rhythms that are not bound to a particular composition.
The drawings embody the space, exploring it in a sense that is beyond logic and language.
They take us from our everyday conscious mind set which is identified to what we know - and asks us to reflect and
question 'what is' - or - 'what it is we know?'
