About the exhibition
ANIMA, meet ANIMUS.
ANIMUS is the second part of two solo exhibtions by Anna Vidamour that are running concurrently in Belfast. Part one: ANIMA (The Unredacted Daughter), can be viewed at University of Atypical until 23 June 2026.
Both exhibitions explore dual subconscious. ANIMA: our feminine, creative, emotional parts. ANIMUS is the darkness; our masculine parts when left unchecked, and what happens when stagnancy and rage are suppressed instead of expressed and released.
Carl Jung proposed the concept that we all have these parts, irrespective of gender. This exhibition highlights what happens when we don’t believe women when they tell us their stories; when we ignore domestic and gendered violence; when we internalise our lived experiences in fear or shame. Tension, knots, destruction breed in silence. It’s time to speak up and to reclaim our lives.
ANIMUS has reached its limits: trying to keep the peace and emotionally tend to those around me. She’s fed up. She’s searching. She’s ready to say what those around her won’t. She’s ready to own her past, in order to step into her future.
She’s ready to burn the system - and those accountable - down.
About the artist
Anna Vidamour is the PS² 2025/26 Graduate-in-residence. She is also a Co-Director of Platform Arts.
