That's us nai
So long, Rosemary Street
Without going all Holly off This Morning, we've been sitting on some news about our building for a while, and the time has come to share it with you all...
We recently mentioned that we've lost PS³ and Blu, but we also need to make you aware that we're leaving Rosemary Street for good. You might have seen that Castlebrooke Investments, owners of the controversial Tribeca redevelopment scheme in central Belfast, has filed a pre-application planning notice proposing 1,000 new homes and two hotels.
(Castlebrooke will hold in-person public consultation events on 30 June and 1 July at the Masonic Hall on Rosemary Street, just in case anybody wants to mention that they've let 12 acres of the historic city centre rot and displaced all of its inhabitants so now we have no choice but to buy whatever they're selling).
When we found out, we were granted a slightly extended stay in our main building, but our four exceptionally wee legs have been kicking away like a swan's for several months whilst we try to keep business-as-usual, our commitments to artists and funders, maintain constant comms with estate agents, and find new premises.
Anna Vidamour's ANIMUS will be our last exhibition in our current Project Space. We'll miss this building (not the cold or the mould, or the street-level spiciness after dark), but our studio artists are particularly upset about it because the light in those rooms is puuuure gorgeous.
Nevertheless, we persist. We have massive plans and several big funding apps in the works. We'll take a break so that we can schlep everything and scrub everything but will kickstart our programme again in August with some Fleadh Fringe events.
Thanks to all of you who have offered help. We're not sure you really mean it but we're planning to call your bluff with a painting party. We'll have more updates soon (as soon as the ink has dried on our next lease). Keep an eye on our Instagram.
