Thaís Muniz and Venus Patel

In conversation with Clodagh Boyce

Thaís Muniz and Venus Patel

On the eve of Samhain, we’re excited to be welcoming two artists whose work incorporates signs, symbols, and performance to interrogate composite identities: where one can be both a conduit for ancestral knowledge systems whilst subverting spiritual systems of control to reimagine iconographies for our time.

Venus and Thaís, who have both recently had major solo exhibitions of their work at Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, will be joined in conversation by PS2 Curator in Residence Clodagh Boyce

Thaís Muniz is a Brazilian Irish artist with African heritage, based in Dublin. She examines representations of ‘otherness’ through ideas of blackness, displacement and memory in a postcolonial context, and explores embodied and experiential art-making processes and outcomes.

Venus Patel is an artist living in Dublin, born in Los Angeles, with Indian and Latin American heritage. She makes films informed by her lived experience of being bothered due to the way she expresses her identity, namely as a transfemme person of colour.

This event is organised by PS2 and Sirius Arts Centre with support from the Co-operation with Northern Ireland Funding Scheme, Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
