In conversation with Clodagh Boyce
Thaís Muniz and Venus Patel
On the eve of Samhain, we’re excited to welcome two artists whose work incorporates histories, symbols, critique, and performance to interrogate composite identities: where one can be both a conduit for ancestral knowledge systems whilst subverting spiritual systems of control to reimagine iconographies and mentalities for our time.
Venus Patel and Thaís Muniz, who have both recently had solo exhibitions at Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Co. Cork, are joined in conversation by PS2 Curator in Residence Clodagh Boyce.
Thaís Muniz is an artist based in Dublin, born in Brazil, with African heritage. She considers representations of ‘otherness’ through ideas of blackness, displacement and memory in a postcolonial context.
Venus Patel is an artist based in Dublin, born in the United States, with Indian and Latin American heritage. She examines her lived experience of being othered due to the way she expresses her identity, namely as a transfemme person of colour.
This event is organised by PS2 and Sirius Arts Centre with support from the Co-operation with Northern Ireland Funding Scheme, Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
